Mt. Tangkuban Perahu is Bandung’s most well-known nature attraction. Just north of the city, this active volcano offers many places to see and explore. The entry gate, about 5 km below the summit, opens at 6:15 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m.; being there very early pays off. Since clouds often roll in towards midday, it’s advisable to visit the top crater first and do the lower on later. Just follow the road until you reach the crater rim at an elevation of, 830 m. Only a wooden fence and good brakes keep your vehicle from going straight over the rim and most popular tourist spot-the immediacy of the crater is overwhelming, despite all the souvenir sellers.
