The Main Post Office

The Main Post Office, Jalan Asia Africa 49. Built between 1928 And 1931 it began its function as the Post en Telegraaf Kantoor (the Post and Telegraph office). Today it functions as the main post office building, managed by PT Pos Indonesia. The architect was J. Ven Gent and it is considered to be in the style of Modern Functionalism, with geometric Art Deco detailing and tropically adapted roof style. In 1920 one corner of the building was out-fitted with a water well and a pump that supplied water to the residents of the city. The building was damaged during the war rebuilt in 1949, using many of its original fixtures and fittings that are still in use today.
